Shelter Pet Alliance
Shelter Pet Alliance is a small grass roots non-profit organization founded by volunteers at the City of Oakdale Animal Shelter in Oakdale, California. Founding members, Ann Goforth, and Betsie Corwin, wanted to help improve the shelter environment and make it a better place for the homeless pets staying there. Cats and dogs deserve more protection from infectious diseases, and parasites to stay healthier and have a better chance for adoption. Some animals need special medical treatment for a second chance at a new life. The old shelter facility needs supplies and improvements.
In October 2004, an account was opened with Stanislaus Community Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. The foundation became the fiscal sponsor for Shelter Pet Alliance.
Shelter Pet Alliance provides:
• Vaccinations, tests for dogs & cats• Equipment and supplies• Medical costs for special needs pets• Special projects
Phoenix, our "poster child" was the first special needs animal helped by Shelter Pet Alliance. In December 2004, Phoenix came to the Oakdale Animal Shelter with a badly broken leg that had never been treated. One look at those soulful brown eyes, and volunteers decided the young sheltie mix deserved another chance. Phoenix had his damaged leg amputated, had a quick recovery, and lives with his adoptive family in the Bay Area.
